Nasarawa Gov Distributes 100 Electric Vehicles to Indigent Youths

In a bold move toward sustainable development and youth empowerment, Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has distributed 100 electric vehicles — comprising 50 electric cars and 50 electric tricycles to indigent youths across the state.

The initiative, unveiled on Thursday in Lafia, is part of the state government’s broader strategy to drive economic inclusion, reduce unemployment, and promote environmentally friendly transportation.

Speaking during the official handover ceremony, Governor Sule emphasized that the program is not only aimed at providing economic opportunities for disadvantaged youths but also aligns with global efforts to reduce carbon emissions.

“This is about creating sustainable livelihoods for our young people while embracing cleaner, greener alternatives in our transportation sector,” Governor Sule said. “We want to empower our youths, reduce poverty, and take the lead in eco-friendly governance.”

Beneficiaries of the program were drawn from all 13 local government areas of the state, with officials saying priority was given to unemployed youths who demonstrated readiness to engage in transport and delivery services.

The electric vehicles, officials noted, are equipped with modern features and supported by a maintenance and charging infrastructure being developed in key urban centers across the state.

The distribution marks a significant milestone in Nasarawa’s green mobility push and has been praised by environmental advocates and development experts as a model for other states to emulate.
