IGP Egbetokun Meets Senator Yaradua on Electoral Reforms, Early Voting for Security Personnel

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, on Tuesday met with Senator Abdul-Azeez Yaradua at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, to discuss ongoing reforms to Nigeria’s electoral laws.

According to Eximia, Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said the meeting focused on the proposed Electoral Reform Bill, which seeks to introduce early voting for police officers and other security personnel deployed on election duty.

Adejobi disclosed that Senator Yaradua presented the draft bill to the IGP for review, professional input, and institutional guidance to ensure it addresses the operational realities of policing elections.

The Executive Director of Yiaga Africa, Mr. Samson Itodo, commended the police chief for the improved security performance during recent off-cycle elections in Edo and Ondo States. He noted that proactive policing strategies had significantly contributed to peaceful and credible polls.

Itodo also praised the IGP’s recent awards and recognitions, describing them as a reflection of his commitment to professional policing and reform-driven leadership.

In his remarks, IGP Egbetokun thanked Senator Yaradua and Itodo for their advocacy toward a more inclusive and credible electoral system, assuring that the Nigeria Police Force will continue collaborating with stakeholders to ensure secure, fair, and transparent elections in the country.
