EFCC Dismisses ADC’s Allegations of Politically Motivated Investigations as ‘Self-Serving and Idle’

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has dismissed allegations by the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC) that its investigations are politically motivated, describing the claims as “self-serving, diversionary, narrow and idle.”

The ADC had alleged that it recently received summons from the anti-graft agency over cases it insisted were not based on fresh evidence, but rather “new files opened in reaction to emergent political affiliations to intimidate key opposition figures.”

According to Eximia, the party accused the EFCC of targeting its members to weaken opposition strength in the country ahead of political contests.

Reacting to the claims, the EFCC stated that its operations are guided strictly by law and due process, without political interference, and reiterated its commitment to pursuing credible corruption cases regardless of political affiliation.

The Commission maintained that its mandate remains to combat financial crimes in the national interest and warned that it would not be distracted by “baseless accusations” from any quarter
