Katsina Allots ₦20 Million to Each Local Government for Cemetery Upkeep

The Katsina State government has announced a significant initiative, earmarking ₦20 million for each of the state’s local governments to be used for the upkeep and renovation of cemeteries. The disclosure was made by Governor Dikko Umaru Radda during a meeting on Thursday with traditional rulers from the Katsina and Daura Emirates.
Governor Radda stated that the decision is not only a public service but also a way to seek divine blessings for the state. “We have set aside ₦20 million for each local government to ensure our graveyards are well taken care of,” he said. “This is part of our service to the people and also a way of seeking Allah’s blessings for Katsina.”
In addition to the cemetery funding, the governor unveiled a new welfare package for traditional and religious leaders. A recently passed law by the State House of Assembly will raise the salaries of all District Heads to at least Grade Level 16. Furthermore, 6,652 ward heads across the state will now receive monthly allowances, and over 3,000 Imams and their deputies from Friday mosques will be provided with stipends. The initiative also includes monthly allowances for sweepers working in Izala and Darika mosques in all 34 local government areas.
The governor also touched on the issue of security, a key priority for his administration. He highlighted that over 1,500 young people have been trained and equipped to support security operations, emphasizing that security is a “collective responsibility.”
Representing the Emir of Katsina, Alhaji Abdulmumini Kabir-Usman, Senator Ibrahim Ida, the Wazirin Katsina, praised the governor’s commitment to the advancement of both the Katsina and Daura emirates. The initiatives are seen as a move to strengthen community ties and provide better support for local leaders and key community institutions.
