The Danger of Losing Consecration

“And the Lord said, ‘My Spirit shall not always strive with man…’” – Genesis 6:3
Cosecration is the divine line that separates a man from the world and connects him with heaven’s purpose. It is not just an outward expression but an inward covenant — a sacred dedication of oneself wholly to God. When consecration is lost, the anointing that fuels extraordinary function fades. A consecrated man carries God’s seal; when that consecration is broken, he becomes a tool in the hands of the very enemy he was meant to destroy.
The Tragedy of Samson: A Case Study
Samson’s story (Judges 13–16) is perhaps one of the most tragic illustrations of a man who lost his consecration. He was a Nazarite — set apart from the womb, filled with supernatural strength to deliver Israel. His consecration involved three key vows: no alcohol, no unclean thing, and no razor upon his head (Judges 13:5).
But what happened when he treated his consecration lightly?
“And she made him sleep upon her knees… and she called for a man, and she caused him to shave off the seven locks of his head… and his strength went from him.” – Judges 16:19
I one careless moment on Delilah’s lap, Samson surrendered the secret of his strength — his consecration. The consequences were severe:
- His eyes were removed (Judges 16:21)
→ When you lose consecration, the enemy blinds your spiritual sight. - He was bound with chains
→ Loss of consecration leads to bondage — habits, addictions, and sins take over. - He was forced to grind grain in prison
→ The anointing that once set him apart now served the enemy’s purpose.
Modern-Day Consecration Loss
Many believers today are repeating Samson’s mistake. In the name of freedom, we flirt with Delilahs — compromising in five minutes what took God years to build. Some lose their consecration through:
Sexual immorality
Dishonest living and lies
Hypocrisy and pretense
Self-willed plans without seeking God
“There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.” – Proverbs 14:12
Some Christians consult only their emotions. They do not ask God, yet expect Him to bless their journey. They reject divine counsel and pursue careers, marriages, and lifestyles that please themselves — not God.

We now have Ph.D. holders living in frustration, not because they lack knowledge, but because God, the giver of wisdom, has blocked access to the revelation they need. Without consecration, human knowledge becomes vanity.
Consecration: The Secret of Extraordinary Function
“But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people…” – 1 Peter 2:9
Consecration is the foundation of the anointing. You cannot carry power without separation. To be a vessel of honor, you must be sanctified and set apart (2 Timothy 2:21). The enemy knows that a consecrated man is a threat. But once consecration is gone, the man becomes a vegetable — powerless against the forces he once cast out.
“When the consecrated meet, they know each other. A thief knows another thief — a consecrated man knows another consecrated one.”
Guard It Jealously
Consecration must be guarded jealously. It is not negotiable. No woman, no man, no job, no ambition should be allowed to strip you of your sacred place with God.

Declare this boldly:
“No man can make me lose my consecration. No woman can make me lose my consecration.”
A Call to Prayer and Alignment
Pray today:
“Lord, reveal my consecration to me and help me guard it jealously. Let me not be a Samson blinded and grinding in the enemy’s prison. May I be found faithful, set apart, and usable in Your hands.”
God is not impressed with your titles — doctor, engineer, journalist, commissioner. He is not moved by your degree but by your dedication. All He seeks is Christ in you (Colossians 1:27). That is what counts.
Final Word
Kingdom life is not about assumptions — it’s about submission. If you’re not interested in what pleases God, you cannot be used by Him. Rediscover your consecration. Recommit to holiness. And never let go of what sets you apart — because when it’s gone, so is the power.
“Let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.” – 1 Corinthians 10:12
